The Transformed Bell

Bell Bronze
The Bell Bronze was born in 2004, when Dutch artist Harmen Brethouwer approached the world-renowned Royal Eijsbouts bell foundry in Asten with a daring request: to cast a bell not in its traditional flared form, but in the shape of a cone.
What followed was a journey of over twenty years — a process of experimentation and refinement unlike anything attempted before. The challenge lay in translating the centuries-perfected harmonic structure of the flared bell into this new conical body. The result is a breathtaking fusion of sculpture and instrument, where ancient craft and bold innovation meet in a form as timeless as the sound it carries.

History
The Bell Bronze came to life in 2004, when Dutch artist Harmen Brethouwer approached the world-renowned Royal Eijsbouts bell foundry in Asten with a daring vision: to cast a bell as an entirely new form.
What followed was a journey of more than twenty years — decades of meticulous experimentation and refinement, venturing into territory no bell foundry had ever explored. The goal was clear: to carry the centuries-perfected harmonic richness of the traditional bell into this new form. The result is extraordinary: a union of sculpture and instrument, where age-old craftsmanship and bold innovation meet in a work of art as striking to behold as it is to hear.
